New Delhi: Prominent Odia novelist, Dr.Pratibha Ray, has been selected for the prestegious Jnanpith award for the year 2011 for her contribution to the field of Indian literature. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh, a citation and a bronze statuette of Godess Saraswati. 

Dr. Ray was born in Alabol, a village in Jagatsingpur district, Odisha. Other renowned works ofthe eminent writer include Yjnaseni (1985), which won Jnanpith Trust's Moorti Devi Award in 1991, Mahamoh (1997), Shilapadma (1983), Uttarmarg (1988), Magnamari (2003), among others. 

A Padma Shri awardee, Ray will be the fourth writer from Odisha to receive the coveted Prize.
